In relation to the function given by bkimble@ebaseweb.com :
Strings are accessible as arrays by default in php, there's no need for this function.
Try the following:
$string = "this is jack's string.\n";
print $string;
for ($c=0; $c < strlen($string); $c++)
{ print $string[$c]; }
This will output the contents of $string twice.
