i've tested the 'one-shot http client' with some sites (yahoo, google, etc) and
always had the same problem: read() won't return 0 when finished, rather a negative number.
thus the read line would be
while (read ($socket, $out, 2048) >= 0)
this happens with php 4.0.4pl1.
