As the comment above mentions, in newer PHP versions (for most ppl starting with php 4.1.0), the
names changed from connect() style to socket_connect() style (ie NOT C style!).
Also, a lot of 'bugs' have been fixed. PHP used to do fd_set(SOCKET,RESOURCE_SET), but is
now used fd_set(RESOURCE_SET,SOCKET) (this is C style now). this goes for all fd_... functions
