i'm noticing this "is_file" function works inappropriately alongside with
"filetype"..
if i try to display files and file types in a current directory it works fine, but when i try to
display the files and filetypes in a subdirectory of the main directory then the functions
don't even work! it won't even report "unknown" it's just blank.
