One way to increase security for business applications is to authenticate against the database,
something like:
mysql_connect ("localhost", $username, $password);
where $username and $passwords were originally passed to the application over a secure form and
stored as session variables. This is particularly useful if you need fine-grained access controll
(you can let the db engine police the db files,etc).
