As far as whether or not "[]" in name attributes goes, The HTML4.01 specification only
requires that it be a case-insensitive CDATA token, which can quite happily include "[]".
Leading and trailing whitespace may be trimmed and shouldn't be used.
It is the id= attribute which is restricted, to a case-sensitive NAME token (not to be confused with
a name= attribute).
