If you are using PHP >= 4.1.0 with custom session handlers, you MUST ensure your session read
function returns a string type even if the session is empty. Returning false or null (as is common)
appears to cause a segmentation fault (signal 11) in the web server.
You should be able to force a string type thus:
return (string)$rtnval;
