Adding Curl support to PHP can cause crypt use DES instead of MD5. Curl wants to include -lcrypto
before -lcrypt in the $LIBS string, which is the primary problem. This change fixes it:
sed 's/"-lcurl $LIBS/"-lcrypt -lcurl $LIBS/' < configure > configure.new
mv -f configure.new configure
chmod 755 configure
