For generic Redhat 6.0 or any other similar Linux server installation it is *MUCH EASIER* to do an
Apache DSO (Dynamic Shared Objects or something)installation. See "INSTALL.DSO" in your
PHP distribution. This is procedure is *NOT* documented on this web site! In order to do this make
sure that you have the appropriate apache-devel###.rpm for your web server installed. The DSO
install took me only 15 minutes with compiling!!! I could not get the "reccomended"
procedure on this web page to work after 2 days wrestling, though I am certainly not a Linux or
Apache expert and don't really care to be...
