I noticed that in migrating from php-4.0.6 to php-4.1.2 I lost all my session functionality!!!!
This is soooooooooooo wrong.
Especially when I specifically used session_register() to register a defined global value and
session_is_registered to check it. Thinking (wrongly so) that using the supplied functions would
ensure future expansion.
But instead, it appears that these will not work since NOTHING is now registered.
This is completely unnacceptable in my book and quite frankly leaves me very PO'd. What ever
happened to the notion of backward compatability and why doesn't the manual state that the
supplied user functions no longer work!?!?!?!
My fix?
I'm downgrading back to 4.0.6 since I have a massive codebase to maintain and I'm not
going to have 3 sites be screwed because of 4.1.2's incompatibility with the described
functions that worked just fine in 4.0.6
I'm already shopping around for another language, I mean this is just irresponsible.
I've always enjoyed backwards compatibilty with PHP in the past, it appears that they forgot
that in 4.1.2
Fortunately, all my code is OOP, so the migration should only take a day, but to have to fork my
development because some guys were just too damn lazy to test for the user functions working is a
total sign that this language has yet to mature and take it's developers seriously.
