Although this is not the primary use of PHP, writing a server daemon in PHP is easily feasible.
The most advanced webserver I've seen so far (with an incredible feature-list) is nanoweb:

I'm trying to do the same thing, but I'm less advanced than nanoweb. My primary goal is to
create a "framework" on top other developers should be able to easily create *any* server.
