a PS to my previous observation: It would appear that a previously included (and then removed) session_start() function had started my sessions. Further testing shows that at least one call is necessary, somewhere where the first session action is required. This indicates to me that the auto start is not functioning, as it should and also begs the question about closing sessions. Maybe we should be using session_unregister(), even with the new set-up? Will have to wait with further testing until I get my application to a more advanced stage!
