Blobs are hard to work with when there's such little (or poorly written) documentation. Here
is an example of how to deal with a blob once it's been selected from the database.
function blob_explode ( $blob_str_id ) {
$blob_id = ibase_blob_open ( $blob_str_id ) ;
list ( $blob['length'], $blob['numseg'], $blob['maxseg'],
$blob['stream'], $blob['isnull'] ) = ibase_blob_info ( $blob_str_id ) ;
$blob['data'] = ibase_blob_get ( $blob_id, $blob['length'] ) ;
ibase_blob_close ( $blob_id ) ;
return $blob ;
}
