obtain all needed downloads apache, mysql, odbc drivers (nt and windows are different), php and
perform all installations, default locations are recommended.
apache:
edit c:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\conf\httpd.conf
change servername to what you want, I used 192.168.1.1
change Documentroot to whatever you want, I used (and created) a dir called Root, off the Apache
dir.
e,g, documentroot "\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Root" ...and put an Index.html in
there for ur browser to find!
if you use "\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs" then rename index.html.en to
index.html, so u get a nice page up, 1st time!
I had some probs loading php4apache.dll from \php\sapi, so moved the file to apache/modules/ and it
worked.
nb don't forget all "/" should be changed to "\"...
I ran it as a service and would advise the same, altho ur circumstances may dictate different.
mysql:
goes straight in. if you have any existing tables they should exist in a dir created the same name
as the table name off \mysql\data, e.g. \mysql\data\mydb. don't forget to start it!
odbc:
I remember having to install this on NT4, but on my W2K Server install, it seemd to go straight in
(M$ getting the hang of it, whatever next?!)
php:
edit \php\php.ini_dist
change doc_root to whatever you have decided will be your root, on apache
change extension_dir to \php\extensions
copy this file to \windows or \winnt as php.ini
copy php4ts.dll to \winows\system or \winnt\system32, this file is used to make php a module in
apache.
(maybe explains the earlier problems with php4apache.dll !)
copy all files in \php\dlls to \windows\system or \winnt\system32
these lines:
ScriptAlias /php/ "/php/"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe"
are already in httpd.conf, so you shouldn't need to add them, although be aware of them.
also remember if installed to drive other than C to change all references to D in php.ini and
http.conf!
to see an example, in action, go to www.billos.net/tape%20index.html
good idea this nboard!
