Imaging this would affect more than temporary! It does not even affect the memory:
putenv('REMOTE_ADDR=NOWHERE');
echo getenv('REMOTE_ADDR')."<br>";
putenv('SERVER_NAME=NOWHERE');
echo getenv('SERVER_NAME')."<br>";
echo $SERVER_NAME."<br>";
echo $REMOTE_ADDR;
Outputs:
NOWHERE
NOWHERE
