preg_replace has a maximimum string length for the third argument. I'm not sure what it is,
can't be bothered finding out.
If this string length is exceeded your PHP script will crash with no a error message or explanation.
The problem doesn't seem to exist in ereg_replace.
The problem is, I don't like the ereg format for patterns. Please fix this bug!
