i've run into an odd problem that i cannot figure out. input would be greatly appreciated.
the situation is as follows:
i have a php script with a form and it basically calls itself and does stuff based on the form
parameters it recieves (the innerworkings of which are negligible for the purposes of the issue at
hand). there are certain (additional) parameters that i need to pass through to each calling of the
script. for demostration purposes, you can assume that at the first calling of the script i will be
setting those parameters manually. when i do so (i.e., i type into my browser: http://urlandfilepath?x=1&y=2, etc.) and submit
the form (using post) the parameters that i have inserted manually (x, y, etc.) remain in the url as
planned (without re-setting the parameters as hidden form elements, etc.). however, when i wrote a
simple test script to examine why this is the case, the manually-entered parameters are cleared upon
submitting the form. i cannot figure out what the distinction between the two forms could be, as i
cannot find anywhere (in the php itself or even in the javascript in the file, etc.) where it
explicitly re-sets my manually-set parameters. instead it seems as though it is passing them
through automatically. (but not doing so in my test script)
the easy way to handle this is to set hidden form elements based on the parameters. however, i
don't want to do this if it is redundant, and more importantly i would like to figure out why
my current script is behaving as it is. if this indicates some sort of way that php will make
persistent certain document-level parameters somehow (across repeated self-calls of a php script), i
would like to find more about it and use it!
