New discovery! at least for me.
imap_open wouldnt work if both mod_php3 and mod_php4 are compiled with imap and installed in apache.
All I did was comment out php3 in httpd.conf and php4's imap works all fine.
This took me almost a month of on and off trying to discover and hope others avoid it. Hope still
more the documentation includes it.
