My installation was a second apache/php server on a machine that was already running apache/php from
the usual place (/usr/local/...). The instructions above didn't quite work for me on FreeBSD,
though they certainly were close. The following other steps were necessary:
* Log in as root. Without root privileges, I got errors in PHP's "make install" (step
14).
* Since this was a second server, the php.ini file couldn't go in /usr/local/lib, so when using
php's ./configure (step 8), you'll need to use the option
--with-config-file-path=<your-path-here>. And of course you'll do your cp in step 16 to
your specific location.
* The second ./configure for apache (step 12) required the --prefix from step 6.
