When retrieving data from a form textarea, neither POST nor GET seem to work with PHP to store the
data in the globals $_POST, $_GET, $HTTP_POST_VARS, or $HTTP_GET_VARS.
Instead I had the textarea name setup as a global itself by PHP and it seemed to work fine from
there.
Example:
-html portion-
<form action="some.php" method="POST">
<textarea name="sample"></textarea>
</form>
-PHP portion-
echo "sample:", $_POST['sample'];
// displays nothing
echo "sample: $sample";
// displays the text area data as a single string
