I installed the WIN32 binaries and had the same null character problem. I had to revise the code
above to make it work. Here is what I came up with:
$s = "your string here";
$tmp=0;
while($tmp<strlen($s) && $c=$s[$tmp++])
{if ($c!=chr(0)){echo $c;}}
