I've been struggling with a way to force this function to timeout quite a bit faster. I'm
creating a client to fetch mail and if the connection is successful I know it in a couple of
seconds, but if something goes wrong it will spin its wheels for about 30 seconds or so. I tried
using set_time_limit(5) near the top of the script, but to no avail. I'm not sure, but I think
the only way to do it may be to create a custom socket for popping mail. Has anyone run into this
problem and subsequently found a work around for it?
