An example of list in combination with MySQL:

$query = "SELECT field1,field2,field3 FROM table";
$exec = mysql_query($query)
while(list($field1,$field2,$field3) = mysql_fetch_array($exec)) {
// etc..
echo $field1;
}
?>
I always use this method when im not using asterisks(*)
