as noted above, the location of "AddModule mod_php4.c" is very important. the apache
inline documentaiton in httpd.conf mentions this.
also, when using a windows environment you will need to quote any path that contains a space.
these two facts ought to be added to the install.txt that is distributed with the windows binaries.
