Note that you may substitute '\d' above by '[0-9]' for faster operations of PCRE
regexps:
- '[0-9]' is an explicit and constant character class that can be precompiled and reused.
- '\d' is a conditional character class which is evaluated at runtime according to the
current locale at invokation time with ctype_digit() function called to check each character; this
disables some optimizations in the PCRE regexp compiler, as the following sets can't be
precompiled.
