In example 1 there are two fairly easy to find mistakes:
The following lines use the wrong pointers:
cpdf_begin_text($pdf);
cpdf_end_text($pdf);
These should offcourse be:
cpdf_begin_text($cpdf);
cpdf_end_text($cpdf);
