Here's one way to think of PHP:
1. Your file contains HTML with PHP code in it
2. The special stuff starts with '<?' and ends with '?>'
3. The PHP engine replaces the contents of the special tags with
the results of executing the code
But here's another way to think of it:
1. Your file contains PHP code with HTML in it
2. The special stuff starts with '?>' and ends with '<?'
3. The PHP engine turns the special tags into 'echo' statements
and the executes the code
