Something worth mentioning, and not specified in the manual, is that you must run mysql_fetch_field
before you do any other fetch operation on the mysql result resource.
Some of you may have run into trouble while trying to do a mysql_fetch_field after having run either
mysql_fetch_row, mysql_fetch_array or mysql_fetch_object.
I have not had time to look at the PHP source to verify this, but I think in order to work,
mysql_fetch_field needs to read some mysql resource link header information that is lost when
mysql_fetch_row/array/object is executed.
This was tested with version 4.3.0 DEV of PHP.
