note 25683 added to function.bin2hex

How to decode large amounts of data? I've a blob field in a MySQL database. To store a image, I read the file and encode all its contents simply with a bin2hex ($contents) call. Then, I send it to MySQL DB with a '0x' before. But now, I don't know how to do a "hex2bin" translation. I've seen "pack" but I didn't see how to use it to decode all contents at once.
