Why won't this work?
$a = '123';
$b = '456';
$str = "__DB-a__ is less than __DB-b__";
$str2 = ereg_replace("__DB-([A-Za-z0-9.]*)__", ${"\\1"}, $str);
-- after this $str2 just contains " is less than " .. why will it not evaluate the
variable with the parens? Any help is appreciated.
