If you'd like to send email messages using a return path that is different from the default
(the email address of the user who runs the Apache process) you could write an external mail
forwarding program that obtains email data from a shared database and sends it out to recipients.
This allows the return path to be the email address of any user who has access to the database and
can run the mail forwarding program. The same program could be used to collect messages sent to the
user (including bounced messages) and upload their contents to the database. PHP scripts can then
send and receive email by querying the shared database.
