It is very interesting what result will be with persistant connections;

$dblink = mysql_pconnect('localhost', 'me','mypwd');
mysql_select_db('test,$dblink);
mysql_query('insert into test set name="something"');
//// here some slow code
echo mysql_insert_id();
?>
imagine... lots of users requerst my script in the same time.
Is it possible to get wrong insert_id in this situation?
