note 27311 added to function.imagecopyresized

I'm trying to save a thumbnail in mysql blob field along with the orginal image in 1 query (the same query that will add the original, just uploaded by the user, image) I will only be using JPEGs. I have tried various ways including using $_FILES['image']['tmp_name'] (where 'image' is the name of the upload element in my form) in imagecreatefromjpeg then putting that into imagecopyresized. Can anyone help me out. I'm getting the output to imagecopyresized as "Resource id #5".
