seems that an expiration time of -1 gets used in various scripts i've looked at. the value of
-1 is supposed to allow for the cookie's expiration upon the user's closing of the
browser. while this seems to work okay for me, i've had clients complain of its failing (ie
shopping cart contents disappearing).
