There is presently an issue with Mandrake 8.* and 9.0 installatons that use Oracle 8 interface
(oci8) which needs hand-compiling of PHP. The "Failed to write session data" problem (this
is NOT the "windows path" problem, it applies to Linux) raises its head.
At this stage my best guess is that the Oracle 8 code uses an older version of libc, however
Mandrake failed to include mm RPMS with versions 8 and 9, which you need to compile PHP, so it may
be that the RPMS available for mm have an incompatibility that itsn't picked up by the RPM.
We need to dig to find out what this problem is because a lot of people out there have it, a quick
search on the 'net will show you this. There is no known solution to this problem at present
(time of posting).
If anyone has the time and inclination to, this would be a worthy investigation and very helpful to
tons of people out there!
