No, I don't 'believe' it's improper to use '[]' in names ... the
HTML-standard loud an clear state it is. It is not a matter of religion ;o)
Any violation of the HTML-standard is 'technically against the rules' ... but how does
this one defer?
These characters cannot be used in names - quotes or no quotes. When you are able to do so anyway -
and do it - you're relying on a browser-bug. That has never been good coding-practise.
Checkboxes can be given unique names, and can be recognized on the server. Also if there is a
dynamic number ... they need not be in an array.
A multiple selectbox is not the most brilliant constructed HTML-element ... i agree. When send with
'GET' you can fetch the selected options by exploding the $_ENV["QUERY_STRING"],
but the element doesn't work with 'POST'.
It's not very well thoght through, but that's life. Another 'hack' is to rely on
client-side scripting and fill a hidden input onsubmit - which isn't good either.
None of these disadvantages should result in bad HTML-code, though. One should find another way to
solve the problem.
/best regards
