Very useful, passed on from php.doc newsgroup... Scenario: You have followed the isntructions to install PHP (v.4.2, v.4.1) on Windows 95/98/2000/XP. Then you installed Apache 1.3.x (1.3.4 in my case) and followed PHP-instructions Install.txt, section "Web server configuration", subsection "Installing PHP on Windows with Apache 1.3.x" and configured PHP as SAPI module for Apache (NOT as CGI !). - Your Apache server is running OK (http://localhost returns the Apache default page). - You created testing PHP file, test.php with the following content (1 line only): <?php phpinfo();?> and saved in in c:\apache\apache\htdocs\ directory. When you point yor browser to http://locahost/test.php, instead of the result of the running of the test.php (a long page with PHP version info and tons of other info), you get the following prompt: - with Nestcape: Unknown File Type: you have started to download a file of type pplication/x-httpd-php. Click "More info" to learn how to extend Navigator's capabilities, and then four buttons underneath: More Info, Pick App, Save File and Cancel. - with Internet Explorer: File Download. You have choisen to download a file from this location. test.php from localhost What would you like to do with this file? Open this file from its current location Save this file to disk and underneath - 3 buttons: OK, Cancel, More Info Now, you think you have not configured something correctly ? WRONG! Apache/PHP developers/testers/promoters/supporters/documenters forgot to tell you something VERY importnat - that the line AddModule mod_php4.c you have been advised to add in your httpd.conf MUST be added AFTER the keyword (section heading) ClearModuleList !!!! As soon as you move it there - stop and start your Apache, try to load your testing PHP-file http://locahost/test.php again and you are back in the game !!! The above problem shows up in the error.log for Apache as follows: [error] Cannot remove module mod_php4.c: not found in module list [Wed Apr 24 01:14:25 2002] [error] Cannot remove module mod_php4.c: not found in module list [Wed Apr 24 01:16:31 2002] [error] Cannot remove module mod_php4.c: not found in module list [Wed Apr 24 01:16:31 2002] [warn] module mod_php4.c is already added, skipping Enjoy!
