note 29263 added to function.gethostbyaddr

recently, i've encountered a bad experience with this function. while i have yet to find out the root of the problem, i would like to share my experience. i woke up one morning to find all pages on my server loading very slowly. frontpage load speed is typically .4seconds, and that morning, it was 12seconds. after 24 hours of myisamchk'ing, top / ping / tracert / reboot / service mysqld / httpd restartin'ing, nothing helped. eventually, i tracked the bugger down to the gethostbyaddr function. the anomaly was that the problem was only happening to ME, and not to my 1-200 users per day. would love to hear suggestion on why this happened and potential resolutions, if any exist. thank you. -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.gethostbyaddr.php http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=edit+29263 http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+29263 http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=reject+29263
