Beware the 'PHP Warning: OCI8 Recursive call!' bug in OCI8 on Linux running PHP 4.2.3. I was bashing my head for ages trying to do an update that just causes the browser to hang. When I looked in the PHP log I saw: PHP Warning: OCI8 Recursive call! There appears to be no fix at the time of writing so I am recompiling to use --with-oracle instead.
