Be aware of daylight savingstime when doing calulations.
for instance:
$newDate=mktime(0,0,0,3,31,2003);
$newDate-=86400;
print(date('d-m-Y',$newDate));
will print: 29-3-2003 instead of 30-3-2003
in fact it is the timestamp for '11 PM 29-3-2003' because 30-3-2003 has only 23 hours...
