As stated above this procedure works for RedHat 8.0+ distributions, on the first try:
First, stop Apache, with the command:
/etc/init.d/httpd stop
Second, remove all dependent RPMs:
rpm -ve mod_perl
rpm -ve mod_python
rpm -ve mod_ssl
rpm -ve php-imap
rpm -ve php-ldap
Finally remove PHP and apache:
rpm -ve php
rpm -ve httpd
Then you can continue with the above instructions (including adding any additional modules to Apache
you want available), and it will work the first time.
