Christ! I'm gonna go potty over all this...
OK.. got Windows XP Home, APache 2.0.44 and the newest PHP 4.3.2-RC1 (as well as trying recent prev
versions).
I've lost track of all th edifferent approaches i've used for installation. However, used
the entry dated 26-2 above most recently.
On face - seemed to install fine - phpinfo revealed all info. However, with this installation and
others previous, it always seemes to struggle with things like user authentication scripts and
anything using variables. errors achieved with most recent setup:
Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp\sess_3bbb3dd6324b7c22e32e75c9b04b8487,

I'm afraid all this has lost me. I've tried changing some session directory, to little
effect.
There must be millions of people who have managed to set up PHP sucesfully on a similar setup to
mine. Why is it such a chore to find how to do this??? Can anyone help???? (also- sorry to flood the
messages but i'm desparate!)
