I'm new to PHP, but on my installation (4.3), session_decode actually sets session variables,
rather than populating local or globals.
e.g.
$_SESSION['foo'] = "0";
session_decode( 'foo|s:1:"1";' );
echo $_SESSION[ 'foo' ] ;
prints
1
I don't see this behavior explicitly documented anywhere.
