The default php.ini-dist file that comes with the distribution from PHP.net does not contain
directives for the Linux dynamic modules. (eg. mysql.so). If you plan on using
"--with-mysql" or any other configuration under Linux, you'll have to add the correct
entries to the new php.ini file.
On a side note, the php.ini file that accompanies the RPMs from RedHat is incompatible with PHP
4.3.x.
