The reason it didn't work was because you just used:
mysql_query("...... $var[$var2[$var3]]....");
and not
mysql_query("...... ".$var[$var2[$var3]]."....");
Let's say:
$var3 = "example";
$var2["example"] = "ex2";
$var["ex2"] = "realoutput";
In the first example, the query sent to mysql will be
"....... Array[Array[example]]...."
and in the second one:
"....... realoutput...."
