i experienced problems when using the servers ip address instead of its domain name as hostname. it
seems that the client library does some reverse dns lookups and waits for a timeout.
in fact connection to the ip address takes 5 - 6 seconds (!) while connecting to the domain name is
a task of about 100 ms.
although it sounds contraproductive it did improve performance alot on my site and i don't want
to understand why (weird m$ stuff).
