if you get an error like: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreatefromjpeg() ...
after compiling php4.3.1 with GD.. heres the solution,
you should compile php with zlib, GD and jpeg.. of course you need to install its libraries.
Heres my configure line.
./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs --with-zlib --with-gd --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/lib
--with-mysql --with-imap --with-kerberos --with-imap-ssl
--enable-track-vars
