The code I found actually works on servers properly this way:

$foo = 'hello world!';
$foo = ucfirst($foo); // Hello world!
$bar = 'HELLO WORLD!';
$bar = ucfirst($bar); // HELLO WORLD!
$bar = ucfirst(strtolower($bar)); // Hello world!
echo "$bar\n";
echo "$foo\n";
?>
