ASCII is a 7-bit encoding, so there is no such thing
as ASCII 228. Now 8-bit extensions of ASCII like
ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) do have a codepoint numbered
228, which is 'ä'. But other 8-bit ISO-8859-encodings
might not have 'ä' at 228, and some are not even supersets
of ASCII like ISO-8859-5 (Cyrillic). In Unicode, 'ä' also occupies
the codepoint 228, but that would only be its encoding in
UCS-2 (or UCS-4, I suppose), while in UTF-8 'ä' would be
encoded to a 16-bit value, namely 0xc3 0xa4.
But in ASCII, 'ä' is not 228, for in ASCII neither 'ä'
nor 228 exist.
Amazing how some people get so worked up by
character encodings isn't it? I'll stop now...
BTW:
täyte = 'mansikka' translates as
filling = 'strawberry' (Or was this some big secret?)
