You can gzip the output of your php script by putting this at the top of your script:
ob_start ("ob_gzhandler");
You need php-4.0.4 or higher, and you need zlib support compiled in. gzip'ed output is
supported by IE 4.0 and higher, Netscape 4.x and Mozilla.
You get a nice performance gain.
